After Wyatt was born- Byron Got to announce him in style to our guests in the waiting room. What troopers! They waited there all night!
Byron then went home to get some sleep while I recovered a little. Wyatt's lungs were very wet when he was born and he was choking while trying to nurse. So- the nurses had to come in and suction out his lungs for about an hour. I was frozen- WIDE AWAKE while they worked on him. He was ok- just had too much fluid in his lungs. But- after an hour of them suctioning and him SCREAMING, he quieted down and ate a little. I sent him to the nursery for a few hours while I rested. I was so nervous about him choking I didn't want to risk me falling asleep and something terrible happening to him. I slept for about an hour (There are so many people coming in and out that you don't really get any real rest). They finally transferred me up to a room around 930 that morning and brought Wyatt to me. I fed him and then my sweet nurse took him back to the nursery so that I could shower and get dressed. That was a chore. I moved at the pace of a snail! But- I felt like a new person after showering. And so many were pawing the wall to come and see the newest Branch- I was beaming with pride.
Mom, Dad, Grandma and Granddad came first thing and couldn't wait to see him.
The day passed in a blur with lots of visits and trying to learn how to do all those motherly things. I felt pretty good considering. My tail bone was really sore, but other than that I was able to move around pretty well! I think I was running on adrenaline the whole time!
Byron made it back to the hospital around 3 for an hour or so before going back on call that night. I'm so thankful he was there for the birth. But- it was a long few days for us both! Nothing like having a baby between call nights! Ahhh- neurosurgery- how I love thee. His chief was great though and stopped in with his family to say hello and see the baby. He gave Byron the morning off to rest which was a HUGE blessing for him.
I could tell Byron missed us because that night while on call- he called/texted me about 8 times to check in. Byron hardly ever does that- but I know he is smitten with our new little man. It's an amazing thing to watch the man you love- love on your kid. makes me fall in love with Byron that much more. I know- it's cheesy- but I'll blame that on the hormones.
We were discharged on Friday and came home with the little man. I couldn't sleep a wink that night. I was so nervous about him choking (he had another little episode when we got home). Plus he was a little fussy that night.
Sunday - we had a friend come over to take some pictures. Shannon Koebe- the wife of one of the faculty brought all sorts of cute props. Wyatt wasnt' really happy about it at first- mostly because his Daddy was poking him awake from his nap ...which really upset Mommy! But- after a quick meal- he was fine and cooperated for a few outfits. She came back a few days later and we captured more shots of our whole family. Enjoy the pics!
